SEA SAVE INC. NEWS:

These are some of the top issues facing many of our novice aquarium enthusiasts. We highly recommend that you become knowledgeable in these areas to protect your investment and in the long run save money on the preventable replacement of fish and corals. We here at Sea Save Inc. are here to help so please come to us with any questions you may have. To us the only dumb question is the one not asked.

OUR POLICY:

THERE ARE "NO" RETURNS ON LIVE STOCK. ALL SALES FINAL!

WE WILL STILL DO CONSIGNMENTS, AND OR TRADE IN'S FOR IN-STORE CREDIT. MINUS 20 % FOR RE-STOCKING FEES, CREDIT CARD FEES ETC. (PRIOR APPROVAL ONLY)

REASON: It is stressful for all creatures to be caught, bagged and transported (Even corals and invertebrates.) Please make sure before you buy your new pet it is what you really would like. We understand character, and not everybody will "Play well with others." Most of the time we hold our fish 3 - 5 days before selling them. We are not able to resell any bagged and re-bagged creatures. Also the time that it involves for this procedure. Sometimes there's lag time in between ordering and recieving some creatures. Deposits are non refundable!!!  Please, remember not to "Impulse buy" your new pets. We consider all of God's creature's to be important and go though extreme measures to ensure healthy and happy pets.

SORRY FOR AND INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE.  THANK-YOU, SEA SAVE INC.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR  PROFESSIONALS WHO REALLY CARE WITH OUR "ON-LINE THINK TANK"

If you would like to be more of a "DOER" you can help us out in our rescue efforts.

http://seasaveaquariumsociety.org/viewforum.php?f=8

We at Sea Save Inc. support the efforts of those who CARE about the creatures. From hobbyist, to diver, collector, to wholesale, and 30+ years of experience we base our stock on supply and demand. We have divers that will diver to order. (Who have licenses to do so not buy (BLACK MARKET CREATURES)  Our intentions are based on conservation and ecology as well. We will not order certain creatures in for the dollar nor do we sell to individuals who have no respect for their life. (Or can't keep anything alive), It could be where your buying from (or whom). There is no reason we should feed off of the lives of others to "Profit". As a business owner we have "the right to refuse service to anyone" and we do practice it often. On the up note, we will not sell to anyone who's tank is have issues or is not ready to support the life of these precious creatures. Corals, inverts, or fish. We use NO chemicals to poison our live stock, and have proved (for almost 6 Years, in this area) it can be done. "YES, WE CAN" keep saltwater aquariums without all the junk, and ending up with "Saltwater Soup". Policies and procedures here at Sea Save are high. Based on Quality (not quantity) and integrity we can give you the best creatures without all the killing. We (and our clients) have a 98% success rate and if you count the life we breed and culture we actually increase in life. We can HELP with any issues in careing for our creatures that you GET FROM US or may have. If you buy from other sources ask them BEFORE you purchase them. We do have a rescue program and try to find homes for ALL unwanted creatures, however PLEASE make sure you can care for it FIRST before you buy. Also any issues they may have had while in their care. Corals, inverts, or fish are all living creatures we care about, many of which SHOULD out live us if we take care of them properly, and the ones that do not we feel we should not keep them. If you can't keep it alive STOP GETTING IT.You can help to some save these creatures (like damsels) if you simply stop buying them.

Why do you not carry DAMSELS?

DAMSELS DO NOT MAKE GOOD STATER FISH! Over the last 2 years alone we have rescued over 30 damsels. They got mean or got big and mean. We consider them to be semi-agressive fish. We know them as rent a pets. Stater fish can be clown fish, chromis (in the damsel family), scooter blenny, and pigmy angels. We have used some of these to cycle tanks. Live rock is anther good stater if you do not want to add these types of fish. Bottom line is DON'T BUY FISH YOUR ARE NOT GOING TO KEEP IN THERE.

NO! DON'T! STOP! We too had to use this method years ago and found it killed our creatures. We found out using dechlorinated tap water is VERY dangerous for Saltwater Aquariums. We do not recommend this procedure. Dechlorinating tap water can not remove these chemicals, along with any other contaminates. Using drinking water, tap water, or even "well water" can cause unwanted algae’s and issues with other creatures. Sometimes people can get by with it for awhile, but will crash a tank over time. Use R / O DI WATER!

QUESTION: TextField1:I used chemi-pure, chemiclean in my tank and it KILLED cephlipods, copods, my seahorses, and other inverts. WHAT HAPPENED?-jh

ANSWER: DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!! BEWARE of products that SAY they are good for  Freshwater & Saltwater tanks. A Sea hair will take care of this problem without harming other creatures.

What they say: "Works equally well in marine or freshwater aquariums to remove heavy metals, copper, phenol, ammonia, and other nitrogenous waste." Tips from our Techs, Many of our customers enjoy fewer necessary water changes when they use Chemi-Pure. It's ability to sustain and stabilize high water quality over longer periods makes it quite popular with discus and reef keepers. Contains no phosphates, algacides, or erythromycin succinate. Avoid prolonged skin contact. Keep away from children. do not ingest." HOOWEY!!!

They also recommend doing a 20% water change after using it. So whats up with that? Erythromycin.(anti bacteria) (penicillin's) Look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythromycin OR http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/erythromycin This is the main ingrediant and WILL kill the Good bacteria as well. Erythromycin is an antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. This antibiotic ONLY treats bacterial infections. Splitting hairs, there are other forms of Erythromycin. The use of such substances within your aquarium can have disastrous effects upon your nitrifying bacteria and cause your tank to crash, killing the inhabitants of your aquarium. Don't just give anything to your creatures without checking first.

QUSETION: TextField1:Repeated references to religion, like "God's creatures" and "God Bless" are just plain offensive.
It shows an incredible lack of sensitivity toward those who may not believe in your god, or indeed, not believe in any gods at all.
Are you running a business or a church?

CHECK THIS OUT!

These are the "TRUE" issues we should be concentrating on, not wether we need a shower or our physical appearances, or nit pick at each other. Maybe they have nothing better to do. To distrat us from the "real" issues. Some people need to tear somebody else down to feel better about themselfs. There are bigger issues than ME, ME, ME, I, I, I. It's called "RESPECT". Not just for ourself but for each other. Some people may not believe in recycleing, however in my "opinion" these people have no "self respect" if they can not even pick up after them selfs. Some people just don't care, until somebody comes and throw trash in "thier" yard, or in "thier" house. What message are we sending our children? It's okay to throw it out the window of the car, or on the ground. Why do we even bother having trash cans? It's just plain laziness.

OUR LIVE ROCK

To be “Politically Correct” Our Live Rock is cultured in the Gulf of Mexico. Gulf and Keys live rock are not comparable. The environmental conditions and the organisms that grow on the rock are different between the two areas that it is like comparing apples to oranges. Gulf rock is more tolerant of variable environmental conditions such as low light and colder water, where the Keys rock has more narrower environmental tolerances, requires more light, constant temperature. (Gulf water and Atlantic waters mixes in the keys anyway). This is two different types of live rock. Our diver ships our live rock directly. From the bottom of the Ocean to the bottom of our tanks is about 6 hours. Very little die off and for this main reason it does not need to be “CURED”. So called live rock needs cured because it sits in transit for days even weeks. Then goes to a wholesale facility and sits there until a “Pet store” orders it. By the time we get it every thing has pretty much died or dying and because of this. Unwanted algae’s (hair algae or True aiptaisa) and anemones may crop back up in time. We also believe that the killing of any creature should not be purchased nor supported. All live forms SHOULD be important. (even anemones) Not every anemone on live rock is aiptasia.

Seawater averages 33-35 ppt. (Surface temperature) Most Hard sps and lps corals are found closer to the surface of the water. At low tide they are exposed and receive 90% of their energy for their growth. Most creatures we care for are NOT found at the surface.

This is an aiptasia family anemone from the Gulf. It's a filter feeder which will NOT take over your tank like its cousin the pacific aiptasia or glass anemone. The curly cues don’t need to be killed as others are.

Much debate whether these guys are good or bad for your tank. There is an aiptasia which is also known as "glass anemone" that originates “out of the pacific“. When people attempt to kill them by remove or pulling on them, they take over your whole tank. The Curly Cue Anemone is not as prolific and spreading. They DO NOT spread. They do grow. The Curly Cue looks darker than the typical Indo glass anemone.

Another shot of a Curly Cue, this time from the side.

You will most likely find this coral on your rocks if you look for them. The cup coral is a filter feeder coral with tentacles extended looking for filter food in the water. They eat phytoplankton and other microscopic bits of food and zooplankton.

Mantis shrimp. Some consider this a BAD hitchhiker, while others enjoy having them in the tank. They can be quite aggressive so most people will want to trap and remove them, so don't kill them unless you absolutely have to!

Pistol shrimp:

If you have one of these in your tank, you'll know it! They make a popping noise with their large claw to try to scare off predators. Although they'll have just about anything for dinner that wanders into their lair, they're relatively harmless, although the popping may drive you nuts! Note that their popping noise sounds very similar to a mantis' strike -- the noise is probably not possible the differentiate.

These crabs are great for a reef -- they're filter feeders and wave their "nets" all day long. The entertainment never ends! Porcelain crab.

You will most likely get many crabs with your rock and even some in the water left in your box when your shipment arrives, so don’t throw out the water the rock comes in until you check it carefully (you may also find small serpent stars)! Other small crabs are likely to appear or be found in your water. This crab is in the same family as the green mithrax (Green emerald)(clinging crab). Sally lightfoots, gorilla crabs. These hitchhikers eat coralline algae, plant, sponges, and corals so you may want to remove them.

STATEMENT:TextField1:I wanted to share a message I received from noted author, Robert Fenner, re: your claim that there are no Aiptasia in the Atlantic/on your live rock:

"On another note, I have a question about Aiptasia.  I
have been debating this issue with a LFS owner, which
sells Florida aqua-cultured LR exclusively.  He claims
that his LR is guaranteed Aiptasia-free, because "NO APTASIA IN THE
ATLANTIC!"

<Uhh, not so . . . Have seen them there, many times...>

<Do send this note to the company, rep...  BobF>
A.B.,baltimore maryland.

REPLY: O,kay maybe it wasn't stated "politically correct". Our LR is from the Gulf and to us the gulf and the atlantic mixes in the keys anyway. To us, It's all Atlantic waters. L.O.L. We have been buying LR from the same diver for more than 12 years and never had aiptasia on it and that was the point. He also has been growing this rock for more than 20 years. Ever heard of glass anemones or curleque anemones? You could also count tentacles if you want to split hairs. I would have been more than happy to explain further had you of given an e-mail for me to respond to. Thank-you for your interest, Sea Save Inc.

CurlyQue Anemone PIC1, PIC2, PIC3, PIC4,"NOT AIPTASIA" Aiptasia1,Aiptasia2, They do not multiply like Aiptasia

Policies and Procedures: Ordering new pets must be picked up when ordered. If a deposit is made, we explain a 20% restocking fee will be deducted from the original amount. Credit Card charges is included in this amount. The cost to Sea Save Inc. would be over whelming if everybody would pay and want a refund. Again, we apologize, we do not cater to the impulse buyer. We feel this leads to unwanted pets, and God knows there are too many of them as it is. As a business this costs us more money in the long run that could cause us a loss, not only for us but to everybody who invests in this Company. MAKE SURE IT IS WHAT YOU WANT BEFORE YOU ORDER!

AFTER 30 DAYS ITEM BELONGS TO SEA SAVE INC. (Thanks for the donation)

ADDITIVES: YOU DO NOT NEED TO ADD "CHEMICALS" WHEN ADDING NEW FISH, CORALS OR INVERTS!!!!!!!

DO NOT DUMP RALLY, MELAFIX IN YOUR TANKS OR PONDS!!!!! WILL KILL MOST ALL YOUR FISH. RALLY RAISES AMMONIA LEVELS OFF THE SCALES. AND MELAFIX SMELLS LIKE VIX VAPOR RUB. KILLED MOST OF THE FISH IN MY POND AND TANK. NO WONDER WHY. WISH I WOULD HAVE ASK YOU FIRST. THANKS FOR SETTING ME STRAIGHT. B.F. MARYLAND

Response: Read the labels. If any chemical has copper ( will burn the fishes gills, kidneys, liver, and can cause DEATH. Formaldehyde: Used for embalming fluid and will peel the skin right off the fish. We also dicuss this on our online think thank http://seasaveaquariumsociety.org/

De-chlorinated tap water is NOT a safe way to go for your SALTWATER aquariums.  "Oh, my tank has been doing fine for  "6 months, 18 months, 3 years, and the longest servivor yet 7 years"  The city water is fine for human consumption not Ocean Creatures.  The City adds chemicals that will build up and kill your Pets. De-chlorinate will not remove all heavy metals and silicates that are deadly.  When using sand or crushed coral that absorbs these chemicals will break down and release them back into your tank causing toxins to be released. CRASH!!!!!!!! read "SALTWATER SOUP"

What the other guy's don't tell you about: Substrate: Aragonite is the top choice for substrate. Araognite will help maintain ph. Crush Coral is cheap HOWEVER, will not maintain ph, sifters can not sift, will break down over time, and causes hairy algae. "Live Sand" is too fine (unless doing sting rays), is kept in warehouses 100 - 30 degrees and the only macro algae ( fancy name for plant)  is HAIR ALGAE, sand can get into your impellers and can damage pumps. Will also clump and get hard over time.

Question: I need a fuge. I was reading online and some one told me I have to have a "fuge". I don't know what it is but I have to have one. Do you guys carry them? J.L.,Glen Burnie,MD.

Answer: A "fuge" is a short made up term for refugium. It is a separate container to grow plant in, and another term know as a sump. We at Sea Save have tried to lead by example. For the last, almost, 5 years hear in Glen Burnie, 12 years in retail, and over 30 years of experience, in and out of the Ocean. We do recommend "Drilled" or "Reef Ready" tanks. (Fresh or saltwater) Just another term. The sump (if big enough) can be turned into a refugium just by adding plant. Our well establishedblished or new "wet/dry" or "trickle filter" systems have bread an "endangered species" the bangaii cardinals and we can't keep plant in long enough to even see a difference. Mangroves are suppose to reduce phosphates but I have kept over 100 mangroves in a 125 and really did not see a difference. "Macro algae" ( a Fancy name for plant) is suppose help pull out nitrates if you add about 100LBS. of plant in there it might do some good, but we found if you add extra carbon it does a better job and won't go A - Sexual.

Question: Can you get corals from ***** supplier? Glen Burnie,md. resident

Answer: We at Sea Save WILL NOT order corals, fish, live stock, Live Rock, etc. for the aquarium trade that is illegally acquired or collected. Which includes: dynamite, Cyndie, quinaldine or sneaking corals into this country illegally. We DON'T promote, support or order these species from any body who do not have the proper licenses to collect, harvest, or aqua culture. Stealing is Stealing. By ordering on-line with some of these other suppliers we would be contributing to their behavior. We do not believe in receiving stolen / POACHED merchandise. We go through extensive measures to ensure our collectors, divers and suppliers do not participate in illegal activities as well. We visit our suppliers facilities and eliminate "back yard" collectors. As divers and collectors we pay for these licenses and make sure that our suppliers have them as well. We have eliminated several suppliers by this procedure to ensure our clients (knowing or not) do not receive "illegal" creatures. Ask your local supplier. Note: We blanked out the name of this local supplier.

QUESTION: Why can I buy "On-line cheaper? C.P. MARYLAND

ANSWER: Some of these companies can afford to buy at a much higher amount than us at this time. Service is apart of this, Can the person on the other end of the phone instruct you, or just answer the phone? What about a warranty? Another point is WHO ARE YOU SENDING YOUR MONEY TOO. By ordering form other suppliers in this manner IS supporting their efforts, and supporting their ways. Last and certainly not least, if the consumer continues to buy "on-line" there will be no more "LPS" ( Local Pet Store) remember supply and demand. Sea Save Inc. tries to relay this message and the more demand for a product or supplier the more we can supply your product for you. We are working on getting these products at a more reasonable rate.

Issues'

"ICK"

Some issues have come up this week and we would like to use this area to solve some of these problems.

There are some species of "FISH" Sea Save does not carry for this reason.  Some are more prone than others.  Hippo, Purple, Yellow Tangs, Triggers, Puffers, are notorious for this problem.  We are a "SPECIALTY SHOP".  We will order your new pet for you, however keep in mind and almost expect these outbreaks.  Some of the species will have the Ick parasite within them at all times and when they get stressed out look out.  This parasite will be the contributing factor for the death of all your fish.  We like to be able to offer you the best price for your new pet.  By "placing your order" we are able to do so. Check out our "IN-THE-BAG & OUT-OF-THE-BOX"

We have had 3-Hippo Tangs, and 1 - Yellow Tang brought in this week for us to cure.  We do offer this service for our clients.  However, keep in mind if you buy these fish BEWARE.  It will be a $5 per day - per tank charge.  It also ties up our tanks and keeps us from ordering in new pets for our clients.

Then why do the other stores carry them?

Most of them will run all of their water together and either use a UV sterilizer or Copper to treat this problems.  Copper will burn their liver, Gills, and Kidney's and shorten the life span of your pet, and in some cases death.  A UV sterilizer is good for your outdoor ponds.  Works great for killing green algae.  The water will run too fast through this filter to kill parasites. The UV bulb will dim after time and is hard to detect when to replace it.  Mr. John spent two years designing a cure for this and we would not have opened another store without it.  After trying everything that is available out there, we could not find anything that would work every time.  No garlic in the ocean. although fresh water dips may work on free swiming naple, it WILL NOT kill the cysts.  Formalin and formaldehyde is embalming fluid. We actually went to our L.P.S. (Local Pet Store) to purposely find fish that had ick. (It was not to hard).

We STOP these deaths by ordering in your new pet we are able to keep our expenses down and charge you less.  We also are in this industry to help preserve the life of these creatures and until we have a need for them we like to keep them in the ocean.  We try to order tank raised and/or aqua-cultured when ever possible instead of striping nature of it's resources.

By opening our Wholesale facility we are trying to stop it at the wholesale level instead of waiting until it gets to you.  The more we stress these fish to more deaths we have, and that's what we are working hard to put a stop to this.  The only control we have over this issue is simply NOT order these creatures until we have a call for them.  Every business will go by supply and demand, and if we do not demand lots then we are also helping keep our natural environment more sound and not just stripping the Oceans of their resources'.

Why don't you order fish in every week?

We at Sea Save try to practice what we preach.  We say "don't introduce too many fish at a time".  "Let your tanks rest". and "Isolate","Quarantine" and give your new pet time to settle in.  We also have to do the same.  When ordering new pets we also give our tanks a chance to "catch up".  By adding so many all at one time will cause your tank to become high in ammonia levels, more water changes and adds to the cost.  We try to keep our overhead down to a minimum and the death rate as well. We try to be responsible with the money you spend here at Sea Save and feel responsible to invest wisely.  That's how we are able to keep our prices low.

Some of these species will come from the other side of the world and even ordering them in will take some time.  We "dive to order".  We buy our fish directly from divers and who collect without using improper methods. Drugs, Dynamite, Cyanide, etc. In some cases it will take awhile to get them in.  Then 3-5 days after. We will not sell out fish that comes in for at least 3 days. The hardest part about saltwater is patience. Keep this in mind when ordering.

If you have any questions or comments: Please e-mail and we can discuss.

Thank-You, Sea Save Inc.
